Flooring work starts underneath the floor you can see. Old flooring comes out first, then the subfloor gets checked for soft spots, squeaks, and moisture, especially in homes with a crawl space, since Lake Tapps ground holds water through the wet months and that moisture finds its way up if the subfloor is not sealed or ventilated right. Only once the subfloor is solid and dry does new material go down.

Flooring installed over a subfloor that is not ready shows up later as squeaks, boards that cup or gap, or tile that cracks along a seam that was never level to begin with. Material choice matters by room too. Solid hardwood does not do well in a bathroom or a kitchen sink area where water sits, luxury vinyl plank holds up to water better and still looks like wood, and tile handles wet areas best of all but is cold underfoot without added heat.

A homeowner should ask whether the subfloor is being checked before anything new goes down, whether moisture is a concern in that part of the house, and what material actually makes sense for how that room gets used day to day.

Questions about
flooring.

What flooring works best in a house with a crawl space?

Luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood both handle the moisture that comes up through a crawl space better than solid hardwood does. We can test the subfloor moisture level before recommending a material for your house.

Can you match existing flooring for a partial replacement?

We can get close on most common flooring types, though wood grain and finish can shift over time with sun exposure and wear. We will show you samples against the existing floor before committing to an order.

Do you check for moisture before installing new flooring?

Yes, especially over crawl spaces and slab areas, since installing over a damp subfloor is one of the main reasons new floors fail early. We test before material goes down, not after.

How soon can I walk on the new floors?

It depends on the material, since some adhesives and finishes need time to cure before regular foot traffic. We will tell you the specific timing for whatever material we install in your home.
